Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive approach to common surgical problems in the abdomen. Many surgical operations that were traditionally performed through large incisions are now accomplished through small keyhole incisions that result in much less surgical trauma and postoperative pain.
At the Institute for Laparoscopic Surgery, we are equally comfortable doing laparoscopic and open procedures. Our patients will not have a recommendation for an open procedure or an intra-operation conversion to an open procedure due to the surgeons inexperience or comfort level with laparoscopy.
Dr. David Lauter went to undergraduate school at Oberlin College and received his M.D. degree from University of Rochester in 1986. He completed his general surgery internship at the University of Washington and his general surgery residency at the University of California at San Diego in 1991. He has been performing advanced laparoscopic surgery in the Puget Sound area since 1992 where he has been a leader in minimally invasive general, bariatric and colo-rectal surgery, including numerous clinical publications and scientific presentations at local and national meetings. His practice has included laparoscopic bariatric surgery since 1999. 
Kelli Brown is the Patient Care Coordinator for the ILS. She has been helping patients at the Institute for Laparoscopic Surgery since 2006. Her expertise includes the ins and outs of insurance coverage for weight loss surgery. Her success rate at helping our patients satisfy the insurance company requirements to obtain bariatric surgery is near 100%. She also works closely with our partners at the BLIS company to provide financial protection for our patients without primary insurance coverage for bariatric surgery.click here to email her with any insurance questions
